Action Hero in the Schools

John has been working with high schools, colleges, and youth programs for over two decades. As a Master Teaching Artist for Young Audiences of Ohio's Artworks Program, John has not only brought an understanding of the arts to the kids in his program, but has been pivotal in empowering them to move forward confidently creating bright futures. 

An accomplished director, John has also worked closely with youth programs for Theaters and national production companies, directing the students to performances with rave reviews.

The Hack and Slash
Shakespeare Massacre

This Tongue in cheek College Age comedy show pokes fun at Shakespeare and his works.

Hack and Slash has performed as headliners at Renaissance Festivals all over the U.S. and Canada including festivals in Maryland, Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Ontario, Virginia, Florida and Ohio. Hack and Slash have made hundreds of national and regional television and radio appearances including NPR, the Discovery Channel, numerous news programs, talk shows, commercials and a video game which sold over a million copies. There is currently a television series in development for the Canadian market based on the Hack and Slash character Barry Croaker.


Hack and Slash believe in the power of laughter to support stress relief and conflict resolution. The Hack and Slash Theatre Company has made six tours to entertain the deployed troops since 9-11. These tours are the subject of their award-winning comedy-documentary, Operation Swashbuckle.

Be an Action Hero NOT a Reaction Zero

This unique and empowering assembly program will excite and inspire your students. John will share the inspiring stories of several action heroes, showing how they overcame adversity and propelled themselves to stardom.  As a skilled fight director for stage and film, John brings his skills to bare for visual impact.  One student will actually crack a whip on stage and hit a target.

An interactive show, " Be an Action Hero, Not a Reaction Zero" will show your students they can accomplish anything. Having been born with Spina Bifida, John went on to become a well respected fight director internationally. Through stories of overcoming obstacles and achieving goals with a humorous style, John will empower your students to succeed.


Shakespeare's Partner

Richard Burbage was the premiere actor of the Elizabethan age. He played most of the leads in Shakespeare's plays and was William Shakespeare's business partner. In this Unique program, John Davis portrays Richard Burbage in an interactive assembly where students get to talk about Shakespeare and his plays and hopefully make a relevant connection to the Bard.

Performed in Historical Costume and Character.

Stage Combat For Actors

On the stage actors perform dramatic illusions of violence night after night using the safe techniques of stage combat. John Davis, a fight director for more than two decades, brings this fun art alive for you students. Actors will learn the physical story of a stage fight and some of the techniques used to bring those scenes to life. Safety, always the  first and last word, is foremost  followed by fun. Your students will get a new appreciation for the art of Stage Combat.  

This program has three levels:
  • 3rd grade through 6th grade
  • 6th grade to 9th grade
  • 10th through12th grade


The Swords of Shakespeare

William Shakespeare references historical fight masters and their techniques all through his play "Romeo and Juliet." This workshop program is design to introduce theatrical swordplay for the stage to your students using the four basic safeties of distance. placement, timing and communication.  Your students will be performing short sword-fighting sequences, to their delight. They will also learn of the unknown history of Rocco Bonetti and George Silver, both referenced in "Romeo and Juliet" and how they affected Shakespeare's writing.

This program has one level:
